Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT buy the HP EliteBook 840 G6

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a classy looking notebook with superb build quality. It also has security features like HP Secure Start and Secure Click and you can have it with some Intel Whiskey Lake vPro processors. The EliteBook series are well-known for their reliability and they age really good through time because of the design and the embedded materials.

There are two display options – a 4K one and a 1080p variant. The first one is a good choice if you need more screen space for work but the price with this panel really gets sky-high. Most buyers will probably prefer the Full HD IPS panel which is a great display with vivid colors. If you haven’t already checked our in-depth review regarding this device you can find it here.

4 reasons to BUY the HP EliteBook 840 G6

1. The build

The silver color of the aluminum body contrast really well with the dark-themed keyboard and the black bezels around the display. The laptop is made entirely of aluminum and its weight and thickness are acceptable – 1.48kg and 18mm. You can open the lid with a single hand without many flexes while opening it – the laptop is sturdy and rigid.

2. Cool and quiet

Our test device is configured with an Intel Core i7-8565U and no matter the load the laptop is cool and quiet all the time. This is very important if you plan to use it at the office and you have to be concentrated all day long. The upper part of the shell reached just 36°C which a really good result – there will be almost no additional heat under your fingers while type on.

3. Battery life

The battery capacity is a modest one – 50Wh. Maybe because of HP’s optimizations, the battery life is good – around 16 hours of Web browsing and over 12 hours of watching HD videos.

4. The screen

The display (Chi Mei CMN14E0) has excellent viewing angles, more than good contrast ratio – 1330:1 (1230:1 after profiling), covers 94% of the sRGB, and after applying our “Gaming and Web design” it becomes a real “color accurate monster” and it’s suitable for color-sensitive work with an average dE score of 1.1.

1 reason not to BUY the HP EliteBook 840 G6

1. The price

Well, that’s a great laptop with good build quality, great comfort during load, and a superb screen. Maybe you already guessed it – it’s not very affordable. If the end price is too high you have to make some compromises with some other notebook that has a lower price tag.

I like the power, speed, display, and sound. I do *not* like the keyboard and touchpad registration. If you are a coder, you will grind your teeth and get high blood pressure. But every machine as pros and cons.
